Veterans' Preference Information

Under Oregon law, veterans who meet minimum qualifications for a position may be eligible for employment preference. If you are an eligible qualified veteran you will receive 5 percentage points and if you are a qualified disabled veteran you will receive an additional 5 percentage points, for a total of 10 percentage points. As of January 1, 2026, under Oregon Law, veterans’ preference now includes eligible state service members and former state service members who meet minimum qualifications for a position. A former state service member means a person who was a member of the Oregon National Guard, and a state service member means a person who is, a member of the Oregon National Guard. If you are an eligible qualified state service member or former state service member, you will receive 5 percentage points.

To qualify for veterans’ preference, you must submit required documentation prior to the closing date of the recruitment. Veterans’ preference cannot be awarded without required documentation.
