Class Title: Community Engagement Supervisor
Class Code: COMM ENG SUPV
Hourly: $32.47 - $43.84 | Monthly: $5628.72- $7598.79 | Annually: $67544.62 - $91185.45Benefits: Full-time
OVERVIEW:
This classification is responsible for developing and managing relationships and engagement with volunteers, Bend Park and Recreation Foundation board members, donors, sponsors, and advertisers to support and enhance District goals, programs and initiatives and to build positive community relations. This classification is also responsible for administering and overseeing the fundraising activities and finances.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of a Manager. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct supervision is exercised over full-time staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, managing and evaluating performance, developing goals, providing discipline, responding to grievances, and effectively recommending terminations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The information provided below encompasses the typical duties and capabilities linked with this classification. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manages and implements volunteer engagement with the District including opportunity development, promotion, recruitment, screening and determining eligibility, placement, on-boarding, record keeping, recognition and appreciation, and appreciation, and program evaluation reporting.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations and directing the Bend Park and Recreation Foundation including updating and communicating with the board; administering and overseeing Foundation finances, and donations and audits; developing, implementing and overseeing fundraising activities; developing and maintaining donor and business relationships; working with District staff to evaluate and create opportunities for involvement of the Foundation.
- Manages dedication opportunities with the District on behalf of the Foundation; develops and evaluates program; promotes and communicates program; establishes and maintains relationships with patrons and service providers; approves site selection and dedication content; coordinates with District staff for installation; allocates proceeds to appropriate accounts.
- Supervises support staff including position development, hiring, training, reviewing of work assignments, evaluating, and on-going support.
- Creates and maintains sponsorship opportunities with the District in the information database; evaluates opportunities and creates guidelines for sponsor engagement; provides support to staff seeking sponsor relationship; develops and nurtures relationships with potential and current sponsors; solicits sponsors for some programs and activities.
- Provides input and support to District and Community Relations Department initiatives, including project and campaign development and evaluation, writing and editing for District publications, and budget development.
- Represents District at special events and speaking engagements.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
- Performs other job- related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
The individual in this classification is expected to possess and exhibit the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
Strong Knowledge of:
- Principles, theories, techniques, and training for volunteer management;
- Techniques and strategies for public relations;
- State and federal laws related to non-profit management and accounting standards for non-profits;
- Principles of effective supervision;
- English, grammar and composition and techniques of public speaking; and
- Web management concepts, tools and software.
Skill and Ability to:
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Analyze data and draw logical conclusions;
- Plan, assign, lead and review work of others;
- Develops and deliver public presentations;
- Organizational skills sufficient to plan and sequence activities;
- Work independently and use sound judgment and initiative with work projects and when representing the District;
- Provide strong leadership, research, and problem-solving skills;
- Effectively evaluate new and existing programs, services, and events and provide sound recommendations;
- Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and respectful working relationships with all contacts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are minimum qualifications for this classification.
Education, Experience, and Training:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent 2 years college coursework; AND
- Three (3) years of experience in area of responsibility and/or performing similar tasks; AND
- One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain with 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment and requires the ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise (i.e., working around others making periodic phone calls or having conversations) and with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to travel to locations in, around, or outside the greater Bend area.
- Duties are periodically performed outdoors in varied weather conditions and uneven terrain.
- Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods of time, move about the office occasionally.
- Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens; use keyboards and variety of peripherals.
- Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, while operating complex computer keyboards, telephone, and standard office equipment.
- Physical exertion includes walking, standing, sitting, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds unassisted, pushing, and pulling.
- Requires crouching, bending, kneeling, or reaching.
- Requires working some evenings, weekends and holiday hours.
