Board of Directors

An elected five-member Board of Directors governs the Bend Park and Recreation District. The District’s Board of Directors is responsible for developing district goals and setting policy. The Board meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Craig Chenoweth, Chair – Board term through June 30, 2017
Craig Chenoweth was elected to his board position by general election in May 2013. A current Bend resident, Craig works for the City of Bend in the planning department and has been active in Bend Park & Recretion programs as a participant, parent and coach. He is busy with family and has two young children.


Ted Schoenborn, Vice-Chair – Board term through June 30, 2017
Ted has been on the board since 2003. He is retired from a career in US Public Health Service. He is also the station manager of (and helped to build) KPOV LP FM, Bend Community Radio, a community radio station that serves under-represented voices in the Bend community. For nearly 20 years he served as Park Board Chairman in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. The parks developed there won statewide design awards. His experience in building parks and developing recreation programs within budget continues in Bend.


Brady Fuller – Board term through June 30, 2019
Brady Fuller was elected to his board position by general election in May 2015.  Brady has lived in Bend since 2007 and works for the engineering firm CH2M as a Project Manager focusing primarily on water-related projects.  Brady earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and a MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Iowa. Brady and his wife have two children and he coaches two youth soccer teams. Brady enjoys outdoor sports including hiking, canoeing and fishing. Brady also serves on the Bend La Pine Schools budget committee, and is active in advising high school engineering programs.


Ellen Grover – Board term through June 30, 2019
Ellen and her husband moved to Bend in 2005 and have enjoyed its lifestyle and community ever since.  Now with two school-aged children, she and her family enjoy the many parks and recreational programs the District offers.  Ellen is also a practicing attorney with the law firm Karnopp Petersen—with a focus on complex local and regional land use, energy and natural resource matters.  Ellen has served on numerous local, regional and statewide boards, and joins the District Board with a commitment to its mission and the critical role it plays in Bend’s quality of life.


Nathan Hovekamp – Board term through June 30, 2017
Nathan Hovekamp and his wife have lived in Bend for 18 years and have two sons.  He has a PhD in Education and is a naturalist and educator. Hovekamp has served on the Bend Planning Commission and Bend LaPine School Board and now serves on the Central Oregon LandWatch board. Most recently, Hovekamp served on the Bend Park and Recreation District’s Citizen Advisory Committee for Riley Ranch Nature Reserve during which he “got a glimpse of the inclusive spirit of BPRD public processes and the positive culture of the organization.” In his application, Hovekamp stated that he would like to “contribute to the award-winning excellence that is the hallmark of Bend Park and Recreation.”
