Therapeutic Recreation
The
district provides recreation opportunities for people of all
abilities. Most of our recreation programs are designed to be
inclusive, with staff providing adaptations and assistance for
participants as needed. We also offer programs specifically
designed for people with disabilities. For more information on
this program area give Amber or Sarah a call at 706-6121 or

Special Recreation Programs
Saturday Club
Ages 16 +...If you are looking for fun and friends on
Saturdays, there is still only one show in town... Saturday
Club. Join your buddies for a whirlwind of excitement
depending on the season (from summer swims to winter sledding).
This is our most popular program.
Hang
Time
Ages 16 +...When the mid-week blues come knockin' on
your door, there's nothing like a little Hang Time to
rejuvenate your spirit. From going on leisurely walks to
playing games to dancing, there will be plenty of fun for
everyone on Wednesday nights.
Down Home Cookin'
Ages 16+...Dust off your spatula and strap on your
apron for some down home cookin'. We will be featuring a
delicious menu full of healthy food donated by the kind folks
at Newport Market. With high quality food and the
guidance of our Master Chefs, your food will taste great and
you'll keep off the weight.
Get Fit
Ages 16 +...If you need to lose some weight, want to have your
best year yet in Special Olympics, or just enjoy working out,
this is the program for you. When the weather's nice, we
spend most of our time hiking and training outside on local
trails. When it cools down, we keep it warm at the Senior
Center and Juniper Swim and Fitness Center for weightlifting,
circuit training, and swimming. This is NOT a social
program...participants will be challenged to increase their
level of fitness.
Special Events
Oregon Coast Trip
Ages 18 +...Spend a couple of days at the beach with your pals
in the fall. We'll visit the Newport Aquarium, explore the
coastline for agates and seashells, and enjoy a tasty seafood
dinner. You never know what other surprises a trip to the ocean
may hold so don't miss out on this spectacular voyage.
Seasonal Dances
Join us at one of our special dances celebrating the season:
Valentines Day Dance and Dinner, Swingin' Summer Dance, or
Howling Halloween Dance. You are sure to have a great time with
some great music.
News
Bend
Park & Recreation District has been awarded a $12,500 grant
from the Bubel/Aiken Foundation to continue Let's ALL Play
inclusion in recreation programs. The grant will allow children
with developmental disabilities to enjoy successful recreation
experiences in an inclusive setting. Lets ALL Play gives
children with developmental disabilities the same experience as
those without. These children come together with their peers to
participate in recreational activities such as swimming, arts
and crafts, community service, physical fitness and more.
Overwhelming evidence has shown that the implementation of Lets
ALL Play improves self-esteem, social skills, confidence to
participate, and sport and motor skills for children with
disabilities. It also creates awareness about the diversity of
individuals with disabilities and the possibilities that
inclusion can bring.
